How to Push Back on a Deadline Without Sounding Difficult

Someone hands you a deadline you already know is unrealistic.

Saying nothing sets you up to fail. Saying no sounds difficult.

Try this:

“I want to hit this. To do it well, I’ll need [X] or a few more days. Which works better for you?”

You are not refusing the work. You are protecting the quality of it.

Most managers respect the ask. They just needed you to make it.
